Gorillas are said to be the strongest of the primates, with rumors of Gorillas being able to lift a ton or more. So what do you guys think? My Opinion: I am very dubious of that statement. Gorillas are easily the strongest primates in terms of species, but I doubt they would be able to lift one tonne. I actually doubt they would get close to half a ton. The thing is, the strongest man in the world, if I am not mistaken, is able to lift nearly twice his own mass, or something like that. So why would a Gorilla be able to lift over 5.5 times its own weight? The answer could be because they are not similar to humans, but what matters is that they are not that muscular compared to the world's strongest man, or men. No-one ever measured the strength of a Gorilla either. Leopards can drag huge prey and carry them up large trees, and Hyenas can crush bones with their jaws. But I have never seen a Gorilla bending a 2-inch-thick steel rod. I have seen a video of a Gorilla tossing a much smaller Gorilla, and it didn't get tossed 20 feet away. If you really believe in Gorillas having explosive strength, you will be surprised after watching this: Does that indicate a level of strength where they can press 1 ton over their head? It struggled to barely throw the adolescent Gorilla 2 feet. After watching this video, I am very dubious of Gorillas being as strong as they're advertised. So what do you think?

Well, it also depends on grip.Even if it had the strength to lift a car, which it doesn't, I still doubt it would be able to get a good grip while being in a stance that favours its upward force.

How much can a gorilla lift? Short answer: alot Long answer: gorillas really aren't adapted at performing human feats of strength, powerflIfting, benchpress, etc. However, they are significantly stronger and more powerful than even the largest and most powerful humans. Strong men and power litters are capable of lifting 2x their body weights. The gorilla can lift at least half a ton. There has been zookeepers who ,after teaming up and using their full strength to move a log or something of the sort into the gorilla enclosure, witnessed gorillas pushing te object around with one hand. But that is different from lifting it with one arm. I don't think they can lift a ton over their heads, but picking up something up close to that weight off the ground may not be beyond their strength. I've used to underestimate te lion's strength until I saw it drag a giraffe carcass. Maybe I'm underestimating the ape, maybe not.

Flipping a car isn't that hard if you ask me, although it also depends on what car we are talking about. And as you can see, that Gorilla struggled to toss the other ape for around half a metre.

I think the gorilla would have little difficulty. To be fair, that gorilla obviously wasn't using its full strength, it was unfocused as well.

I cant really find a video of the gorillas full power. They mainly use their immense strength very casually. Here a gorilla easily rips a banana tree.

A Gorilla doesn't look any more muscular than the strongest men in the world, though. A Gorilla won't be far stronger than a olympic medalist.
