Liam speed is not an advantage I see you saying this all the time so I'm going to ask for an explicit explanation why speed ISN'T an advantage...

Liam speed is not an advantage I see you saying this all the time so I'm going to ask for an explicit explanation why speed ISN'T an advantage... Because it is not. For example, a chicken can be considerably faster than a human. Does that give the chicken an advantage? I don't really think it does, unless it comes down to just running away, and that isn't the kind of scenario we have at hand. Agility is an advantage, but speed is simply not.

Agility is an advantage, but speed is simply not. Chickens can't run that fast, only up to 10-ish mph. A moderately fit adult could easily run that fast. And so can many teens and kids. EDIT: Well not a lot of people can run 10 mph but still they're barely much slower.

It's not something everyone can do, but I'm fairly certain even the people who can't would have too many advantages over a chicken.

• Speed: I’m not at all certain whether Ceratosaurus or a Gaur would be faster at similar masses. • Size: 2m is very liberal and certainly far from normal. By contrast you are discussing a single specimen of Ceratosaurus dentisulcatus here. This study→ mentions they found a maximum shoulder height of 175cm for male Gaur, and 147cm for females, in a sample of 12 males and 16 females of various ontogenetic stages (the largest were definitely adults). • Fighting: I’m sure the gaur is a formidable opponent face to face, but I’m not sure how effective its horns are. As already pointed out it will have to lower its head considerably to use them, which will impair its vision. How long are typical Gaur horns? Can they give it a reach advantage and keep the Ceratosaurus at enough of a distance to not be bitten on the face or neck? Also if the gaur tries to gore the Ceratosaurus it will likely have enough time to sidestep. The bovid too has a lot of mass that it has to accellerate first (we are talking about linear accelleration for both of them). I’m not sure whether it will be outflanked or not, but the Ceratosaurus can evade it just as quickly as it can attack, and the dinosaur’s more flexible neck and longer body may help it to catch something to bite in the process. What seems clear is that there’s a lot of flesh on the gaur that the Ceratosaurus could eviscerate given the oppurtunity. PS: Mammals have two quadrate condyles that articulate with the atlas, so how can they have a ball and socket joint? By comparison, it’s reptiles that have the more or less ball-shaped single condylus. and I don’t really see how flexibility of the articulation between the neck and skull would impact the field of vision the eyes have relative to the head.

Concerning the ball-and-socket joint, I'm already aware of that now. And honestly, it's rather funny that I didn't know that before...
