Grizzly bear? The average grizzly is less than half the weight of the average polar bear (490 lbs vs 1,000 lbs). Kodiak vs polar bear would have been much closer, though I'm still inclined to favor the polar bear on that one too.

I agree, although to be honest we could use parity. It says Grizzly Bear but we don't know what population it is, the Alaska population is up to 550kg, Polar Bears can range anywhere from 150 to 700kg, so we should use parity instead. At parity I would slightly back the Polar Bear, mostly due to having the same weaponry and its protective blubber.

Polar bears actually average between 700 - 1,300 lbs (depending on the population); Grizzly bears from Alaska average 857-970 lbs. Anyway, at parity I would slightly back the Brown bear. They are more robust and powerful build, have a greater bite force, and longer claws.

At parity the Grizzly has more offensive advantages. But will the teeth be immediately lethal? Those canies aren't that long. Well, they are, but not enough apparently.  Polar Bears have approximately 10cm/4 in of blubber, and even though Grizzlies have some fat as well, Polar Bears seem to not have issues with Walruses, which have a lot of blubber. |

At parity, the brown bear will have a stronger bite if you scale it up to the size of polar bear specimen AM M42656 (though the difference isn't too huge admittedly) and likely has the skull more adapted to dealing with stress. While it has blunter claws, they would also be larger. I don't however, think that the claws will be the killing tools here (that would go to the jaws). The polar bear would likely have the better integument and overall body protection, but depending on how long the battle lasts (and where it takes place), it will overheat quicker.
I conclude that a parity fight would be close.
