This is a hard question, who is the best grappler? Which one of these animals can most effectivly grapple their prey or rival in battle. Grappling is very important in the animal kingdom to tackle prey and rivals and can be some very serious help in battle so, who is the most effective grappler? I will add more to the poll if any others are suggested.

Imo, felines are the best grapplers of all. They have large muscular and very agile bodies than can easily tackle and imo that makes it tackle prey more effectivly than any other animal. Its extremely good jump and agility also make it a very good grappler. For me it would go like this 1. felines 2. Ursids 3. Dromaeosaurids 4. Apes/Mustelids(Can't decide)

Felines. They are extremely strong and fast creatures, and can leap swiftly. They have sharp claws to use and attack with.

A golden eagle can exert over 600 pounds of force with its claws, and they don't let go when they're latched on. In fact I'd be willing to say that they are the best grapplers among at least living vertebrate animals.

Because owls and hawks have similar weapons, even though they are not powerful like eagles. Owls are great grapplers if you count the subtlety of them, when prey note that a predator is near, it is too late, is in the grip of the owl.

I would have today ursids as they have FAR better endurance, have more upper body strength, more bulk and muscle, is more robust, and more stable.

Felines. They are extremely strong and fast creatures, and can leap swiftly. They have sharp claws to use and attack with. Those qualities suit pantherines better. Felines aren't really the greatest grapplers of all felids, Cougars are probaly the best grapplers of the Felinae. All pantherines are better at grappling than nearly all felines. Panthera, Uncia and Neofelis are the only three genus in the Pantherinae, and they sure are better grapplers than those in genuses of the Felinae, like Felis and Pardofelis.
