Don't get me wrong, its a fact that they did but why? Why did they evolve such a feature? Birds and Pterosaurs evolved beaks to either highly specialize in diets of both groups or that they used it for parisite control to eat parisites and clear them of their feathers without damaging their feathers. But what did therizinosaurs use its beak for? A new paper studied Erlikosaurus andrewsi(Lol likosaurus and andrew LOL) to see why Paper: www.oucom.ohiou.edu/dbms-witmer/Downloads/2013_Lautenschlager_et_al._FEA_of_theropod_edentulism_&_beaks.pdfIt seems that the tip of the beak experiences the lowest stress levels while the caudal is the exact opposite(the highest stress). The beak stablilizes the cranium while feeding allowing it to experience higher stress.(Also sadly you have to read the entire paper to get a full understanding of it). The study also showed that erlikosaurus harnessed the neck muscles to produce adductor forces stronger than its bite. This study could either apply only for erlikosaurus or most/all therizinosaurs. So what do you guys think.

You just said that beaks can be useful for picking off parasites on birds. Well, dinosaurs were most likely feathered, so therizinosaurs could use beaks for doing that. Also, if therizinosaurs were herbivores, then a beak is useful for stripping the leaves from plants and trees.

Yes, but there is a smaller difference between Therizinosaur beaks and Hadrosaur beaks. This suggests that Therizinosaurs also used their beaks for eating vegetation, like Hadrosaurs. I dont see why beaks like this couldnt get rid of parasites either, and this may have been another small reason why Therizinosaurs had longer necks.

im gonna go with enter on this one it seems very likely that therizinosaurus had a beak that was perfectly capable of stripping away parasites and maybe things that shouldn't be there also that beak would be perfect for stripping leaves off branches
