Tau woke up. He was still very tired. He didn't know, but the time was 4am. His eyes adjusted to the darkness quickly. He was still drowsy, but he was awake enough to see dancing shadows about 400 metres away, on the other side of the canyon. He stood up, slowly, and tripped over. He landed on his face, with a loud "Shit!" He was winded. After a couple seconds, he tried yet again to stand up. Things went better this time. He dragged his feet along the cold sandstone floor, and started his short trip across to the other side of the canyon. Only about 75 metres away, there was a thick bridge of stone connecting both sides. He had to be careful crossing it though, or he might have fallen off and traveled 7 metres down through the air and into his grave. He made it though, like he always did. He shuffled along, approaching the shadows.
"...when are we leaving Tau?" A voice said. The shadows were coming from a cave, in which a small fire had somehow been started. The shadows were that of other Rugops, and Tau recognized them to be the shadows of his group and the other couple groups of Rugops that lived in this canyon. Tau was about to walk in, but he stopped when he heard that voice. The Rugops' continued to discuss. "We are leaving him quite soon, but we just need to organise stuff first." Another voice said. The first voice replied, "Organise what? We don't have much to organise..." The deeper, obviously more authoritative voice said "Yes we do, fool. We must know exactly where we are headed, for starters. We also need to organise a couple volunteers to carry some food with us, so that we will not starve if we cannot find food." Then there was a mix of lots of voices that Tau could not pick out in his tired state. Tau was awake enough to realise, though, that he was going to be left by himself if he didn't say something. He didn't want to be alone.
Tau stepped into the cave. The discussions stopped. Tau creased the skin above his eyes, and made what would be known as a 'frown'. There was a quite awkward silence, and the other Rugops realised that Tau had been listening. "Look, Tau, uh..." One Rugops started. "Your a dick, and we are leaving." Another voice finished. Tau expected someone to disagree with that voice, but no one said anything. 'Am I really that annoying?' Tau thought. 'These guys think I'm that bad, they are leaving me?' Tau started to get angry. "What the fuck?!" He yelled. "You are just going to leave me?!" No one said a thing. Tau continued, "If you guys thought I was a dick, how about tell me so I stop? It's your own fault for being wimps if I insulted you, you assholes!" Tau was panting loudly now, he was yelling so loudly. One of his friends, or who Tau thought was his friend, spoke up. "We are really sorry, but you are too much. We are going. I don't want to make this any more awkward, so the decision is final." He said. Tau was hit with a train of sadness, that his own friend had said this. "C'mon guys, lets go." The same friend said. Tau watched as 15 Rugops left the cave, and abandoned him. "Fuck you!!" Tau screamed out as they were walking away. He roared very loudly.
After a couple minutes, Tau sat down, and started to realise what had happened. All his friends, and all the people he had ever known had just left. Pricks. "My fault?" Tau said to himself. "It's not my fault. I am who I am, and if they aren't happy with that they can fuck off..." Tau said these things, but was feeling terrible inside. Tau had done this to himself, no one else. But he refused to admit it. The sun had started to rise. Tau looked up at it. "New dawn, new life..." He muttered. Tau heard the shuffling of rocks overhead. He immediately stood up, prepared to fight. He looked up at the ceiling of the cave, and saw dust falling off of it. Something was on top of the cave...
