It doesn't say anything about the actual size estimates for each dinosaur, I'm assuming Spinosaurus still weighs around 12 tons but what about Tyrannosaurus?

I am also sceptical of Tyrannosaurus weighing much more than Spinosaurus. Spinosaurus' length would of given it more mass, and if Cau likes to use conservative estimates for Spinosaurus, the differences between Tyrannosaurus' and Spinosaurus' actual bone sizes probably wouldn't be as big as depicted. Comparing the entire specimens of both dinosaurs is probably more reliable: www.skeletaldrawing.com/home/super-spinosaurus6282013Spinosaurus seems to be larger and heavier overall despite some of its bones being smaller and less dense.

Even though I am slightly on Tyrannosaurus' side, there is so much going for Spinosaurus too. This debate is never going to end until we can find a nearly complete Spinosaurus specimen in all honesty.

This debate is never going to end until we can find a nearly complete Spinosaurus specimen in all honesty. No, it will only be over when close-minded people stop getting in it. We don't need a complete or nearly complete specimen to clear it out that Spinosaurus wins, although that would help a lot.

I'm still siding with Spinosaurus on this fight, Spinosaurus did have a large size and strength advantage. Being bulkier doesn't really matter if you're a lot smaller than your opponent.

Another pic that Andrea Cau posted:
That is the Milan specimen, again, the largest specimen we have currently, yet it's rostrum is extremely thin. Moreover, as Cau pointed out in all of these posts:
theropoda.blogspot.com/2013/11/loverbite-reale-ed-il-subadulto.html theropoda.blogspot.com/2013/11/aggiornamento-al-post-precedente.html theropoda.blogspot.com/2013/11/vertebre-dorsali-di-theropodi-confronto.html theropoda.blogspot.com/2013/12/risposta-ai-lettori-vertebre-di-t-rex.html theropoda.blogspot.com/2013/12/mettere-la-faccia-in-cio-che-si-scrive.html theropoda.blogspot.com/2013/12/homo-sapiens-ricostruzione-scheletrica.html
Spinosaurus is not all that massive. The holotype doesn't seem to be a subadult after all, and even if Cau is underestimating the dimensions, it still would take a lot more size for it to fully surpass Rex. Moreover, as he points out in one of the links, it might be that Spinosaurus is relatively elongate and lightly built (I've gotta check his sources though, unless someone else has a copy of Predatory Dinosaurs of the World (Paul, 1988).

I'm sorry but there is no way he could estimate the weight of Spinosaurus and other carnivores using only the vertebrate. What about the entire ribcage? The femur? If Spinosaurus was 4.4 tons it would have to be as gracile as a crane. I'm still sticking with the 10-12 ton estimates for Spinosaurus until we uncover a more complete specimen.

New pic from Cau. Full-on comparison between both Sue (silhouette from Scott Hartman) and the Milan specimen:
Cau also said something very interesting in the post these two were compared on. The new silhouette and size are not just based on his own overlooks, but that they're based on a new study by Bonadonna and Maganuco due to come out soon publishing new remains of Spinosaurus. If this is true, then it really does seem like Spinosaurus will be getting a downsize sometime soon, and a makeover based on above...
Still, until it's properly published, I'll stay quiet about this possible new work.

The vertebrate of Torvosaurus is surprisingly small. Its probably one of the 9 metre specimens since its similar in size to allosaurus
