www.skeletaldrawing.com/home/mass-estimates-north-vs-south-redux772013Scott hartmans new estimates reveal that The largest Tyrannosaurus rex speciemen(FMNH PR2081/sue) is actually larger than the largest Giganotosaurus speciemen(MUCHPv-95). As the image shows FMNH PR2081 is 12.3 metres long and 8.4 tons in weight. The Giganotosaurus holotype who is called MUCPv-Ch1 which is 70% complete was 12.4 metres(10cms longer than sue) but was only 6.8 tons. That makes it 1.6 tons lighter than FMNH PR2081, this is due to how robust T-rex. It is both much more barrel chested and dimentionally bigger. The larger Giganotosaurus speciemen (MUCHPv-95) who is only known from a lower jaw bone. Scaling that bone up from MUCPv-Ch1 gives us a 13.2 metre long Giganotosaurus. That would make it much more dimentionally bigger than sue BUT... It only weighs 8.2 tons. This is also because sue is bulkier. But listen to this, this is not a 100% clarification that Tyrannosaurus rex is bigger than Giganotosaurus. This is just showing that the largest T-rex found is barely heavier than the largest Giganotosaurus found, we do not have enough specimens to determine who was bigger on average. T-rex speciemens vary to much in age and we have only two Giganotosaurus specimens. So what do you guys think?

Really interesting. Scott Hartman's models are very interesting and realistic. You got a really interesting thread here. Sticky'd

So this pretty much means that t.rex was just as big if not bigger than giganotosaurus?

Of course, due to the fact T. rex was heavier it means it was bigger

No it does not, it simply means the largest T-rex FOUND is just a little bigger than the largest Giganotosaurus. We don't have enough specimens to determine an average.

Exactly. It is only from what we know. Considering the first Trex specimen was around 10m (I think) and the very first Giga specimen was over 13m long, Im guessing that Giga still was a bigger predator than trex. But you never know.

The excluding Manospondylus gigas remains the Tyrannosaurus holotype(holotype means original specimen)which is called CM 9380 was 11.9 metres long and was more than 7 tons. The Giganotosaurus holotype(MUCPv-Ch1) on the other hand is 12.4 metres long and 6.8 tons, its the neotype that is actually 13.2 metres in length. That makes the Rex holotype bigger than the Giganotosaurus holotype. Here is a nice overall comparison between the 2 found Giganotosaurus specimens, sue and CM 9380. NOTE:CM 9380's weight is a rough estimate made by Spinodontosaurus from carnivoria, so its not the official weight.

Exactly, as you can see we know very little about Giga's size so basically everything is about preposition. Length is not a good way to tell though, the most reliable way to tell which animal is bigger is by its weight

We know alot about Giganotosaurus's size, its either the same size or larger than the average Tyrannosaurus which we can saftely say is 12 metres long. But Giganotosaurus has been proven to grow to 13 metres which has not been the case for T-rex. But I would say they are roughly the same size.
