It's quite shocking that this wasn't really greatly discussed on this forum so far, despite how we have used those systems a lot on here. So which do you prefer, and why? I, myself, stick to the metric system. The human brain works with base 10 integers - not completely random, arbitrary numbers in a complete mess of a system. Not to mention how only Myanmar, Liberia and the United States use the imperial system - meaning up to only ~5.1% of the world actually use the system.

Despite what I was saying in the shoutbox, I do actually prefer the metric system and trying to get a grasp of it. I was just saying we should not call the imperial system "retarded." There is nothing wrong with it, I understand it fine.
The metric system is just as arbitrary, for instance, a meter is based on the distance something the speed of light traveled in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 seconds. Why?
Something called "bias" exists with that diagram. "Hey guys which one is better, imperial or metric?" *shows a picture explaining that the imperial system is "retarded"*

I was just saying we should not call the imperial system "retarded." Then you should have made it clearer, not to mention how I don't see why not. re·tard·edrəˈtärdəd/adjective informal, offensivevery foolish or stupid. "in retrospect, it was a totally retarded idea"This is the meaning I used for "retarded", so the argument you had previously made about it not being able to be retarded does not work, and plus, you really did not give me any reasons as to why not. You're getting too technical, and the problem with that is that you are not applying it properly. "Arbitrary" is not used as formally as you think it is. Things can be correct without being exceedingly formal. The metric system uses a linear pattern, one that can be easily used since it works with the same numbers the human brain has the most ease with. It's like in our earlier school years, when we're learning how to multiply numbers - we always hoped we would get a question including 10 from the teacher or something along those lines, since multiplying by 10 is a lot simpler.Yes, because it is a humorous diagram. Nonetheless, it gets a good point across - the metric system follows a logical pattern, while the imperial system does not use any mathematical pattern and makes it harder to understand. There is a reason why many schools withing the United States are starting to teach metrical units.

Metric all the way, and this is considering I'm from the US.
