Björgvin was working on the last parts of a nuclear bomb that was expected to be detonated that same month. It was a large, 3.5 metre long device, with an expected final weight of 5,840kg, and a yield of 25 megatons. It had a filling weight of 7.7kg, and had a plutonium filling. It was the first of the model UT-378. Björgvin was switching the plate with batteries for a better one, added a barotube collector, and another baroswitch. Those were the final steps; the bomb's case was ready to be put in place, and taken to a military base with a bomber plane, about 10 kilometres from there. The truck to carry the bomb

Björgvin got the extremely heavy bomb inside the truck, using some strength and mechanical help. That "beauty" was going to be detonated the other day, if everything went correctly. As soon as he had the bomb prepared to be carried to the military base, he got inside the truck, and turned the engine on. As soon as that, however, he hopped out of the truck to pick up some high quality cameras he had forgotten to take with him. They would record the detonation from several places. He then was ready to drive through an empty road, made entirely for military relations.

The day had arrived. It was the 17th of December, and the first UT-378 nuclear weapon was ready to be tested. Björgvin and a few other people helped getting the bomb into the bomber aircraft. It was a sunny day, with a few clouds - the horizon, was seeming to fade away - just like hot days at the shores of a beach. The sound of crickets in the heat was predominant, albeit not remarkable. The vast, endless dry testing site was prepared for one of the most destructive nuclear blasts ever. The cameras were being set on their places. Everyone prepared to take cover, behind transparent glass panes. Geral security was ensured. Björgvin entered the bomber aircraft, he was the pilot. Another Bear hopped in. An excited, yet silent atmosphere was predominant. Björgvin activated the engine. The aircraft then took flight, going to the north direction. They arrived at the test site a few minutes later; it was some 3 kilometres from there. The two stopped for a moment. "You ready?", the co-pilot asked. "I was born ready", answered Björgvin, after a few silent seconds. The button was pressed, and the bomb started a 10 kilometre free fall. The two put their masks on; they allowed for radio communication and protection. The bomb would then take an estimated 48 seconds to finally cause the fireball that would be seen by everyone, including the two bears in the plane 20 seconds after the arrival at the observation site. Strong winds caused dust to lift with the air, as the fireball faded into a mushroom cloud that would be at its maximum height 10 kilometres tall in about 7 minutes. The soldiers were proud of their successful detonation, and their recordings proved that they were capable of creating devastating results. Nothing remained in the bomb's path, and everything was vaporised, or just melted down. Huge boulders, several metres away from the hypocentre, literally boiled. It would not, however, be their first bomb, and certainly not their most powerful one.
The newspapers around the world, a few hours later, would share the news that a cold war had been put into effect between two powerful nations. Imagery from the two bombs was being posted everywhere on the internet; schools, universities and many other places around the world would talk about the explosions all the time. People would even start debating over which bomb would be more destructive. The Uthadlands' first test of Operation Nordic was now official.

The UT-365 Nordic Crown was already at the detonation site, waiting for the right moment for its detonation. Its yield was revealed as 46 kilotons, almost twice the yield of Nordic Joe. It was 3 days already after the first detonation, and no response from Vladislav was apparent. Of course, it was very early, but they could supposedly intimidate Vladislav if they had another powerful nuclear weapon ready for its detonation, only 3 days after the first one. The 14kg uranium-235 filling was gonna contribute to more destruction than Nordic Joe's 7.7kg plutonium filling. Björgvin and Herbjørn were, again, respectively, the pilot and the co-pilot for the bomber aircraft that would drop the bomb from a height of 15 kilometres. The time required for the aircraft to arrive in time was calculated and was enough for the two to observe the explosion from a safe distance. It was another hot day at the testing site, to be again greeted by the nuclear death threat...

The bomber aircraft was at a good distance now, several kilometres from their observation area. "Time for the detonation", said Herbjørn. "Drop in 15 seconds", he said, after some time, with a "radioalized" voice, as he sent a radio message to the observation site - which counted down the seconds for the detonation. A silent Björgvin said, in a slow voice tone - "Destroy". From there on, he started talking on the radio; "Detonation in one minute". The intimidating aircraft, soaring through the sky turned around, and went at a high speed to the observation site, where they would rapidly hide behind the thick, almost completely transparent, tempered glass pane, thus making sure to not be covered in the sand that would violently hit them. Being 7.5 kilometres from the detonation, all of the sky that could be seen by the observers suddenly went from blue, to a world-ending orange. The colossal, blinding fireball was seen, to the sound of absolute silence. The observers were lucky to be wearing protective masks - as they would easily be blinded by the extremely blinding fireball at the middle of the horizon. Wearing regular sunglasses would not help, either. The fireball started becoming less bright, and slowly turning into a mushroom cloud that would formidably make its way up. A shock wave could be seen approaching. A deafening, stunning blast sound could be heard 22 seconds after the fireball. The sound was truly intimidating; as if the entire planet was falling apart, and nothing could be done about it. An unstoppable wrath that was being unbeliveably witnessed. The shock wave approached, and as it did, a violent wave of dust and sand grains came along with it. The wave hit the glass panes, and even caused a minor crack in one of them, possibly due to one of the larger rocks being carried along. The observers felt a small shock on their chest. Nordic Crown had just been detonated.
Soon, the world would be shocked by the increasingly violent conflict between the Utahdlands and Vladislav - the fear of a nuclear winter was present in the more dramatic already, and it seemed that everyone was already aware of the power those two had.

Both nations had detonated two bombs by now, and two of similar power. However, knowing that Vladislav still didn't start dropping their bombs from aircraft, it was about time for the Uthadlands to start using intercontinental ballistic missiles. They possessed a fair amount of ICBMs, but they were looking at the intimidating, 30-metre tall SDH-3002. The SDH-3002 is a two-stage rocket powered by a liquid bipropellant, with UDMH as fuel and nitrogen tetroxide as an oxidizer. The Uthadlands were still working on a new bomb, this time even more confidential, which they would secretly use the ICBM for its detonation, rather than dropping it from an aircraft. The RX-877 "Nordic Hazard" bomb was being developed.

The RX-877 was a completely new design, allowing for higher yields and smaller devices. This device was very missile-like, weighing 6 tons, and being 2.95 metres long. The case had already been added, and the bomb was almost ready for detonation, with only a few tweaks being done. The SDH-3002 intercontinental ballistic missile had been transported to a new detonation site, larger than the previous one. Björgvin was still on the way to the testing site, carrying the 6-ton nuclear weapon on a huge truck, heading to the facility where the much more powerful bomb would be tested. Getting there after a while, the bomb is taken out of the truck, and goes under the process of attaching it to the ICBM. The process takes some time, but it is finished that same day. The Uthadlands will launch the intercontinental ballistic missile the other day, at 11:30AM, as they still have to place objects in the bomb's blast radius, giving the opposition an idea of how powerful their bomb is.
A picture of the RX-877, however, is already released by the Uthadlands. The bomb has a 100 megaton yield, as written on its case, and some information on it is released as well. It has a lithium filling, and the third stage had an uranium-238 fusion tamper, which greatly amplifies the reaction by fissioning uranium atoms with fast neutrons from the fusion reaction, while the second stage had a lead tamper, which increased the % of energy from the fusion alone, out of the total energy released from the detonation.

Vladislav had just detonated a large bomb. The RX-877 would be pointless at this point with a similar yield, unless Björgvin's idea was put into effect. And it would: as they had access to more uranium at the time, a few tweaks to the bomb could make it even more powerful. It took a couple hours for the physicists to solve the issue, and then a few more to add the extra uranium. The bomb Vladislav expected to be detonated at 11:30AM by their rivals did not happen at the expected time. However, it was just plain wrong of Vladislav to claim their edge at this time. The ICBM was going to detonate a bomb now with four times its former yield.
The 400-kiloton nuclear weapon was ready for the detonation. No more wait. The ICBM was launched, and the observers saw it disappearing in the middle of the clouds in a short timespan. The sky was darker at the top, and a bit of light covered the horizon. The ICBM could be located based on the red smoke it would leave. The countdown started, from 10 to 1. When the missile reached the ground, a gigantic fireball consumed the sky. It seemed like plain day. The vehicles placed kilometres from the detonation simply disappeared. Some people at the beaches of Vladislav were able to notice the detonation. A satellite at a height of 3,000 kilometres captured the detonation, and the mushroom cloud was about 6 pixels wide at its maximum size. Even the new predicted yield caused more destruction than expected, andas the testing site was not too far from the borders with the northern neighbouring country, a small shock was reported to be felt by a citizen there. The seismic shock caused by the detonation was still measurable almost 1,000 kilometres away.

The nuclear race between the two opponents was peaking. The Uthads were developing two bombs at the same time, with unknown details at the current moment. IXC-656, the new ICBM model, designed recently, was designed for almost cirurgical accuracy. The bomb to be detonated first, by the ICBM, was rumored to have a yield of 500 kilotons, but this was only speculation. The actual yield was unknown, but it was likely going to be more powerful. The other one had a relatively low, yet effective yield for this part of the cold war. At 14 kilotons, the XZT-900 was going to be fired from a 20-metre long cannon: the 45-TS. However, the cannon was not revealed to the rest of the world, but instead was developed in Nucor by Uthad physicists, and only known by Capitalist Union members, who would start producing more units if the model launched the bomb successfully.
Vladislav was aware that the Uthads were developing two bombs, but two other secret weapons were totally unknown...

The YR-2000 was a totally secret bomb, however, and only about 30 people knew it existed. It was even outrageous, some could say, as it was more powerful than all warheads used by Vladislav and the Uthadlands at this point of the war... combined. However, the 1.5 megaton lithium-filling bomb, with several tree stages, wasn't expected to be detonated any soon. Its detonation was planned to be in a non-populated island at a safe distance from Vladislav. In the meantime, a bomb about 3 times weaker was attached to the IXC-656, its detonation predicted to be at 8PM.
They were currently at the main testing site. The bomb was attached to the ICBM. A computer set the precise location for the detonation, and a simple mouse click would launch the 35-metre tall, scary-looking missile, which would take 2 minutes to lead to an implosion-type bomb's effects to be seen from ridiculously large distances. "Launch", said the commander, to only see his order being listened to without a single response. The countdown started, and the ICBM disappeared in the middle of the clouds, with red light and red smoke giving out its location.
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1..."
Fireball. All that could be seen was a fireball. Soon after it, a shockwave could be seen approaching the observation site, and all that was seen before the detonation was obliterated. Trees were turned to dust, decommissioned tanks and aircraft that were no longer working, set kilometres from the explosion, were blown to pieces. The shockwave blew a thick tempered glass pane set to be destroyed by the explosion to pieces. A 4-metre long car placed in front of an extremely thick wall was crushed against the wall, turned into a small bunch of destroyed metal and shattered glass. The wall set behind it falling apart. The videos recorded proved the Uthadlands to be taking this very seriously...
