The three Kaiju and the one Mecha were finally about to land on New Zealand. Yang looks up at the rock faces, cliffs, and outcrops along the rocky cliffs to see if there was a good place for them to land. As he does, he thinks back to a time long ago, when he had history with this final frontier on the edge of the world.
"This island used to be a refuge for the last of the dinosaurs." He says out of the blue. "I remember seeing many species survive in this land for at least a few million years following the time that the meteorite carrying Colossus crashed to earth. They were able to thrive for a little while longer after the event."
"Really?" Shinji said, somewhat interested in the topic. "So not all the dinosaurs died at the same time? What made the ones here so special?"
"Back then, the island was polar, so the species were built to survive such harsh conditions. Moreover, it is situated the furthest from the impact, and was sheltered from the blow. At first I thought that it was those two factors which kept them safe. However, perhaps some other forces were at work here that even I passed over..."
Brachydios and Yin were flying close behind the two others, listening closely to their conversation. However, part-way through the talk, Brachydios heard something splash loudly from far behind them. He turned his head to face behind him and Yin, but there was nothing but the endless waves and ocean behind them. A few seconds later, another noise, but as Brachydios turned, again there was nothing...
Yin caught on to Brachydios' unease. "What's wrong?"
"I swear I keep hearing something following us..." He says as he turns back again.
"You sure?" Yin asks surprised, turning back as well.
"I think it's under the-"
Brachydios is unable to finish his sentence as he and Yin are shot out of the air by a massive water jet. It causes Yin to drop Brachydios and spiral out of control, causing them both to splash down into the deep ocean below. Yang sees what happens, and turns him and Shinji around to help the two out.
"Brachydios! Yin! What happ- WHOA!"
Yang is unable to finish either as another water jet fires by the two. This time, however Yang is able to dodge the blast. However, another shot is fired, and this one hits Shinji's Eva, causing it to fall into the ocean below as well. Shinji shakes the fall off and looks around to see Yin floating on the surface, as well as a struggling Brachydios trying to keep his head above the deep water.
"HELP!" Brachydios gargles as he takes on water. "I CAN'T SWIM!!!"
Yin, luckily, comes over to help the Crushing Wyvern out of his predicament, keeping him above water as he continues to struggle. Yang hovers above the three, looking out for the shooter...
"Coward!" Yang yells in anger. "Who is firing upon us! Are you a Sin?"
Suddenly, a huge wave of water starts charging towards the four at high speed, faster than any man-made vessel ever made, and the second fastest thing Yang had ever seen swim. It slowly approached the surface, showing it's tan-colored back, red stripes, and white, skull-like marking on it's forehead. It's massive jaw opened up, showing it's huge teeth at the four creatures. They didn't expect this would be here to greet them...
"What the hell is that?!" Brachydios says, alarmed as it speeds towards them.
Tang too is shocked. "I don't know, but whatever it is, it doesn't seem friendly..."\
The creature roared at them as it approached fasted and faster. Shinji looks at it with wide eyes, seemingly recognizing it from somewhere before. There was no time to think about it though...
"Everyone! Get to the land!" Yang yells as they all quickly start paddling to the safety of the shoreline. However, Brachydios is unable to keep up. His thick arm pads, small feet, and thick body proportions were ill-suited for swimming. Not to mention that his major ability, his slime, dissolves in water. Shinji sees him struggling as the creature closes in on them, and heads back to assist the Kaiju.
"Come on! We gotta move!" Shinji says as he tries pulling on Brachydios and helping him along. Brachydios was trying as hard as he could, but the creature was still coming faster and faster until it finally slammed into the two. They're ripped apart and Shinji is thrown towards shore, while Brachydios is pushed into deeper water. The two try to right themselves properly, only to see the giant monster rushing towards Brachydios again.
Yang turns around and heads back to help Brachydios, firing and beam at the giant monster. However, it proves ineffective as it dives out of the way. Despite it's huge size, it was surprisingly nimble in the water, and easily evaded all of his attempted strikes. Brachydios gets hit again by another slam by the creature's massive head, and is sent back yet again. He is left spitting up water again as his teammates try to come to his aid. As he sees it looping around for a third blow, Brachydios makes a brave decision.
"NO!" He yells while spitting up more water. "Leave me! There's no hope now! You have your own duties to fill!"
"Brachydios, no!" Yang yells back. "You can't face that thing! You can barely swim right now!"
"I know that!" He says with clear fear in his eyes as he sees the creature charge at him again. "But I might just be able to hold him off so you can get through!"
Shinji then spoke up. "No! I don't leave my partners behind!"
"Speak for yourself kid!" Brachydios says cockily as he gets some footing on a shallow sandbar he was able to partially stand on, smiling as he faced this foe head-on. "You left me in the dust one day when you got slashed by that bitch Nemesis in Italy! I had to save your but for that too!"
Shinji was shocked. "You remember that? That was five years ago..."
"I don't forget my favors, and you can do me a big favor right now by keeping this planet - this universe, from blowing up." He says, smiling, as he faced down the fast-approaching monster.
Yang didn't want to leave Brachydios, but they had no choice. "Brachydios, don't die on us now!" He yells as he leads the other two towards the coast. Shinji looks back at Brachydios as the monster got closer and closer, and finally collided with him, sending up a massive blast of water. At first, Shinji can't bring himself to look back, but when he does, he sees Brachydios' fist smashing into the side of the creature's huge jaw, causing it to wail in pain as it takes back to the water and circles back around.
"I don't intend to without a fight..." He smiles.
