I am planning to make a book... you know like the last million and a half times I said that and never got very far. Well, this time I plan to actually do it.
My plan is to make a book documenting the history of vertebrates, from the Cambrian to present day, from Haikouella lanceolota to Homo sapiens.
I'm not sure how I am going to do the artwork. I might make it myself, which is a massive undertaking because I'm not very good at drawing in the first place, let alone a few hundred to a few thousand animals, but it might just be possible. The other alternative is to use artwork from online and give full credit to the authors (typically I would use Nobu Tamura and Dmitry Bogdanov for extinct vertebrates, other than that I am going to be looking around a lot).
But the main reason I created this thread was to get feedback from you guys. What animals do you want to see in this book (well I don't know that you'll ever see it, because it might just be my own personal book, but there is a chance that if I finish it in like a billion years that I would release it in a download link)? What creatures are intriguing to you?
There are a few rules:
So far, I have managed to complete my lists for the most primitive known vertebrates: lancelets and their kin, hagfish and their kin, and lampreys and their kin:
Chordata (Parent- Animalia)
Haikouellidae (Parent- Vertebrata)
• Yunnanozoon lividum Chen, Dzik, Edgecombe, Ramskold, and Zhouu, 1995; Extinct; Atdabanian, Early Cambrian
• Haikouella lanceolata Chen, Huang, and Li, 1999; Extinct; Atdabanian, Early Cambrian
Cephalochordata (Parent- Chordata)
Pikaiidae (Parent- Cephalochordata)
• Pikaia gracilens Walcott, 1911; Extinct; Amgan, Middle Cambrian
Leptocardii (Parent- Cephalochordata)
Cathaymyridae (Parent- Leptocardii)
• Cathaymyrus diadexus Shu, Morris, and Zhang, 1996; Extinct; Atdabanian, Early Cambrian
Branchiostomidae (Parent- Leptocardii)
• Branchiostoma lanceolatum Pallas, 1774 (European Lancelet); Data Deficient (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
Craniata (Parent- Chordata)
Myllokunmingidae (Parent- Craniata)
• Haikouichthys ercaicunensis Luo, Shu, Morris, Zhang, Hu, Chen, Han, Zhu, Li, and Chen, 1999; Extinct; Atdabanian, Early Cambrian
• Myllokunmingia fengjiaoa Luo, Shu, Morris, Zhang, Hu, Chen, Han, Zhu, Li, and Chen, 1999; Extinct; Atdabanian, Early Cambrian
Myxini (Parent- Craniata)
Myxinidae (Parent- Myxini)
• Myxinikela siroka Bardack, 1991; Extinct, Late Carboniferous
• Eptatretus deani Evermann and Goldsborough, 1907 (Black Hagfish); Data Deficient (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
• Eptatretus stoutii Lockington, 1878 (Pacific Hagfish); Data Deficient (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
• Myxine glutinosa Linnaeus, 1758 (Atlantic Hagfish); Least Concern (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
Hyperoartia (Parent- Craniata)
Jamoytiidae (Parent- Hyperoartia)
• Palaeospondylus gunni Traquair, 1890; Extinct; Givetian, Middle Devonian
• Jamoytius kerwoodi White, 1946; Extinct; Ludfordian, Late Silurian
Endeiolepidae (Parent- Hyperoartia)
• Endeiolepis aneri Stensio, 1939; Extinct; Famennian, Late Devonian
Petromyzontomorpha (Parent- Hyperoartia)
Tullimonstridae (Parent- Petromyzontomorpha)
• Tullimonstrum gregarium Richardson, 1966; Extinct; Moscovian, Late Carboniferous
Priscomyzontidae (Parent- Petromyzontomorpha)
• Priscomyzon riniensis Gess, Coates, and Rubidge, 2006; Extinct; Famennian, Late Devonian
• Mesomyzon mengae Gess, Coates & Rubidge, 2006; Extinct; Aptian, Early Cretaceous
Petromyzontiformes (Parent- Petromyzontomorpha)
Geotriidae (Parent- Petromyzontiformes)
• Geotria australis Gray, 1851 (Pouched Lamprey); Data Deficient (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
Mordaciidae (Parent- Petromyzontiformes)
• Mordacia mordax Richardson, 1846 (Australian Lamprey); Data Deficient (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
Petromyzontidae (Parent- Petromyzontiformes)
• Petromyzon marinus Linnaeus, 1758 (Sea Lamprey); Least Concern (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
• Lampetra fluviatilis Linnaeus, 1758 (European River Lamprey); Least Concern (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
• Lampetra planeri Bloch, 1784 (European Brook Lamprey); Least Concern (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
• Entosphenus tridentatus Richardson, 1836 (Pacific Lamprey); Data Deficient (Extant); Holocene, Holocene Quaternary
Conodonta (Parent- Craniata)
Priodontina (Parent- Conodonta)
Priodontindae (Parent- Priodontina)
• Promissum pulchrum Gabbott, Aldridge, and Theron, 1995; Extinct; Tremadocian, Early Ordovician
You'll also notice I made a taxonomic family for all of these, even if they didn't have one, but it just made it feel more consistent to do it that way. I would have preferred not to do so, but consistency is important and it is not a big deal.
So yeah, give me suggestions.
Maybe it will take more than a few days for me to give up on this one this time!

There are a few rules:
- All requests must be vertebrates, no invertebrates. My original intention was to include invertebrates and even plants, but I found myself extremely uninterested in them.
- Animals can be from any point in time, and can be extinct, endangered, safe, etc. I guess this isn't really a rule, but something to keep in mind.
- Also not a rule, but another thing I wanted to note: you can have as many requests as you want, post a frickin' giant list of creatures if you want, but I would prefer if they were ordered by classification (but this is not a requirement).
